![]() There was so much history before his time in captivity and subsequent escape with Ping, I was expecting a great journey to be told within the pages of Dragon Dawn and instead I found what is mostly the diary of a few days of travel.ĭragon Dawn is a good story that could have been made great with a little more time and effort… and a great many more pages of Danzi's history thrown in. The story, such as it was, was written well, but I would have preferred more to have been written about Danzi. It feels almost as if the author was trying to fill space at the end of the book to make the story look and feel longer than it is and after having read Dragonkeeper I expected more from its prequel. An orphan slave girl becomes a Dragon Keeper when she heroically comes to the aid of an aging dragon and both go on a dangerous journey across China to protect a mysterious stone vital to the dragons legacy. All the while revealing that he has an eye for silk. Pursued by a ruthless dragon hunter, the girl and the dragon make an epic journey across China carrying a mysterious stone that must be protected. At first a child fraud coerced by his parents to pose as a Dragonkeeper and starting as an Unwitting Pawn, he helps to rescue Ping from the necromancer, reveals that he was using berries to win Kais affection, and then for the rest of Dragon Moon seeks her out to keep her and Kai safe. It is a good idea and I found it informative, but having so much of the book filled with this general information takes away from the story itself. A slave girl saves the life of an ageing dragon and escapes her brutal master. Dragon Keeper is a fantasy fiction book, It goes back in Ancient China in 141 B.C.E. A good portion of the book is not actually the story at all, but is a reference guide called the Dragon Alphabet, which tells some of the history of Dragons in China. Pursued by the Emperor's forces and an evil dragon hunter, Ping, Danzi, and a rat called Hua, set off on a remarkable journey across the kingdom. Her master is a boorish drunk who neglects his duties as Imperial Dragon Keeper. Rating: In the year 141 B.C., Ping is an illiterate Chinese orphan who lives on the edge of one of the Emperor’s least-used royal palaces. While I enjoyed the story it seemed to be only a small fraction of what it could have been. Carole Wilkinson, Dragon Keeper (Dragon Keeper Novel) The book is about a slave girl and a dragon, who travel through China to reach the ocean, carrying a purple dragonstone with them. His fate seems sealed - until Ping comes to his rescue in a moment of startling bravery that reveals her destiny as a Dragonkeeper. Author: Carole Wilkinson Follow WilkinsonCarole. I must admit to being disappointed with Dragon Dawn.
